January Spotlight

1. What is your career and/or business?

Krystal is an HR operations consultant by day, but in my free time I pursue my interest in the performance arts as an actress. Freddie is a career electrical engineer that has worked in the power construction and design industry for the past 18 years.  Freddie is also the owner of Lineage Group Realty, servicing the Charlotte region since 2005.

Krystal: I am learning how to build my personal brand. I network, and try to find creative ways to get my name out there by taking on interesting projects and opportunities.

Freddie: As owner of Lineage Group Realty, Freddie strives to provide personalized and attentive investor focused service to each client in order to ensure they get the home they want for the best deal possible.

2. If you own a business...what is your ideal client and/or investment opportunity?

Krystal: As a performer, my ideal project would be one that’s unique, emotion filled, and funny, that reaches a wide audience.

Freddie: My ideal client is someone that has a long-term investment focus when searching for a property.  I enjoy working with clients that see the value in building wealth for future generations through real estate investments.

3.  How are you building a legacy for your family/loved ones?

Krystal: As I continue to raise my financial awareness, I feel obligated to share what I’ve learned with others. Through my art, I also hope to take produce work that raises awareness and leaves a lasting impression on the world.

Freddie: By continually re-evaluating current investments, taking advantage of expert advice, and building a diverse financial and real estate portfolio, I hope to build a robust financial legacy for my family and loved ones that will long out last me.

4. Can you share some words of encouragement for other individuals/business owners that are striving for financial security?

Krystal: Start where you are, and it’s never too late to start building. Eliminate fear and mystery by continuing to educate yourself, and arming yourself with the tools and resources that allow you to move in positive direction. It’s start with you and our community has a huge deficit to overcome.

Freddie: Financial security begins by being brave enough to take the first step.  By being willing to take on new opportunities and surrounding yourself with individuals that have a success mindset and can provide you with knowledge and tools, anyone can gain the financial security the seek to build for themselves and their loved ones.

5. Do you have a goal and/or vision you'd like to share?

Krystal: Through my art I hope to highlight the stories of lesser known African Americans throughout history that were able to overcome their fears and challenges to achieve success.

Freddie: My goal is to build a portfolio over the next ten years that will provide a secure stream of residual income that I can count on in good and bad times to fully support my needs and the needs of my family and loved ones with as little hands on maintenance as possible.

Run your race, know your pace. Don't worry about what someone else has or if they seem to be moving at a faster pace than you.

We want to own at least one income-producing properties for each of our four children. We have one currently and have a goal of acquiring three more within the next 10 years.

October Client Spotlight

1. What is your career and/or business?

Deidre is a Nurse Manager for Novant Health. She is responsible for the daily operations of her unit. She handles budgeting/accounting, managing 30+ staff members and is responsible for the overall patient experience. Adrian is an IT Professional and a silent business partner of a black-owned company, owning delivery routes through USPS in multiple states (Louisiana, Texas, Washington DC, and California to name a few).

2. If you own a business...what is your ideal client and/or investment opportunity?

An ideal investment opportunity would be one that creates passive, residual income. We don't have a lot of flexibility with our time, so we're looking for investments that only require capital and produce monthly or quarterly revenue.

3. How are you building a legacy for your family/loved ones?

We're taking early steps to secure our children's financial future while time is still on our side.

4. Can you share some words of encouragement for other individuals/business owners that are striving for financial security?

We would encourage people to take the first step and meet with financial professional. Then set goals, save and invest your disposable income when you can.

5. Do you have a goal and/or vision you'd like to share?

We have very strategic goals. We want our children (Drew and Aiden) to do the following: Graduate from higher learning debt-free; have capital as early adults for weddings; home purchases and business ownership. We want entrepreneurship to be a realistic option for our children, and hopefully make it a normal way of living.

September Client Spotlight

1. What is your career and/or business?

We started our Early childhood/ daycare business in 1977 - Fairyland Daycare Center. We eventually expanded to five centers throughout Charlotte, and became real estate investors. Over time, we've been blessed to build a sizable rental property portfolio.

2. How did you set your business apart from your competitors?

We always made an effort for our childcare centers to feel like a home away from home for the parents and children. The learning environment is always structured, but still allows the children to have fun and feel at home. Fairyland has always set a high standard for kindergarten preparation.

3. How are you building a legacy for your family/loved ones?

Throughout our career, we opened more childrecare centers and encouraged our family members to become entrepreneurs. We hope to set a great example for the next generation...teaching them the importance of hard work, staying committed to your vision and not allowing obstacles to get in your way.

4. Can you share some words of encouragement for other individuals/business owners that are striving for financial independence?

Have faith and put Christ first. Don't be afraid of hard work, it's necessary to build a successful business. It takes more than 40 hours per week. There will be a lot of long days and countless hours put into your business. You must learn to properly manage your business' cash flow and have discipline to budget for your money. Always surround yourself with honest/reliable people and your business will inevitably grow. You will have to learn how to accept criticism. Lastly, always treat people the way you want to be treated.

5. What other goals and/or visions would you like to share?

We want to ensure that our legacy extends to our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our hope is that they continue growing our businesses and venture into new businesses.

August Client Spotlight

1. What is your career and/or business?

In my day job I lead Operational Excellence for a Financial Services Technology company. My team focuses on business transformation and redesigning processes
to improve the client experience and deliver business efficiencies. My passion
outside of that is real estate. I’ve been investing in residential real estate for almost
twenty years

2. How do you set yourself apart from your competitors?

I recently began offering more creative housing offerings such as co-living. Co-living
is a more modern take on communal living that provides a private bedroom in a
furnished home with shared common areas. I differentiate myself from the
competition by continually reinventing myself and the products I offer.

3. What is your ideal client and/or investment
opportunity?

My ideal investment opportunity would be win-win. It would be one where I can invest in my community, providing unique affordable housing. I will be
developing unique small communities that encourage strong relationships
among neighbors.

4. How are you building a legacy for your family/loved ones?

I want to buy the block! I want to develop communities to enrich the lives of my friends, family and neighbors. The need for this will never go away and this will
be the legacy I leave behind.

5. Can you share some words of encouragement for other individuals/business owners that are striving for financial security?

Don’t be afraid to fail. Take that first step. Learn from your mistakes and keep pushing forward. Don’t let failure paralyze you. Learn from it, adjust and push forward.

6. Do you have a goal and/or vision you’d like to share?

My goal is to have the financial security to spend every hour of the day doing “what I love” versus “what I need to do”.
